0 – School Entry
The Cochrane District Preschool Speech-Language Program offered through the Porcupine Health Unit is the central intake for all children with speech language concerns.
Below is a list of agencies that your child may access at this age depending on his/her needs. Keeping in mind that waiting lists exist, the referral should be made as soon as possible.
- Cochrane Temiskaming Children’s Treatment Centre
- Cochrane Temiskaming Resource Centre
- Infant Development Program through the Cochrane Temiskaming Resource Centre
- Healthy Babies Healthy Children
- Community Living Children’s Services
- Child and Family Services of Timmins and District
- Other appropriate Associations depending on your child’s diagnosis
- With a doctor’s referral, specialized assessments may be accessed through pediatric centres and hospitals
*Entry to school is very important, some of the agencies listed above, can assist the family with transitioning to school at the time of your child’s registration. Please access education for more information.
Junior Kindergarten – High School
At this time, your child may require updated assessments in planning for transition. Below is a list of agencies that your child may access. If you are not already involved with an agency, please keep in mind that waiting lists exist and a referral should be made as soon as possible in order to determine eligibility.
- Your child’s school board

- Cochrane Temiskaming Resource Centre
- North East Community Care Access Centre
- Child and Family Services of Timmins and District
- Other appropriate Associations depending on your child’s diagnosis

High School – Adulthood
At this time, your youth/young adult may require updated assessments in planning for transition. Below is a list of agencies that your youth/young may access. If you are not already involved with an agency, please keep in mind that waiting lists exist and a referral should be made as soon as possible in order to determine eligibility.

- Cochrane Temiskaming Resource Centre
- North East Community Care Access Centre
- Timmins and District Hospital – out patient speech therapy
- Child and Family Services of Timmins and District
- Other appropriate Associations depending on your youth/young adult diagnosis
